Finding Great Science Fiction Books
So many books are published each week that is often hard to decide which books to read. If you are like me, I read about 500 books a year (yes I said 500). You may already have a number of authors that you follow and they may or may not put out enough material for you to keep up with. I follow about 43 authors and they cannot keep up with me.
The artwork on a book is designed to catch your attention. If the artwork gets you to pick up the book, the chances of you reading the synopsis go way up. If it sounds good, you may decide to purchase the book. If you do, the book people have completed their task successfully. However, you should consider books that don’t always have artwork that catches your attention. Picking up a book at random can prove to be a great way to discover a new author and a great literary piece of work. Many times, I have randomly selected a book, read the description, and then made a purchase.
If you are looking to save money (and who isn’t), but still enjoy great books, consider the used bookstore. Used books are great for people who love to read or are looking for something new that won’t cost them a lot of money. When you finish the book, you can trade it back in and get some credit towards another book. Although if you love science fiction as I do, you will find that, most science fiction fans do not trade in their science fiction books.
If you can find a small bookstore, perhaps one that is locally owned, you can also take advantage of their recommendations for other authors. You can tell them some of the authors that you like to read and they will recommend others that are similar to those you are reading. I don’t often pay attention to the reviews on the books themselves, because I know the book company isn’t going to put something on the book that isn’t favorable to it. Usually, the people reviewing the book are people I have never heard off.
So, if you want to find great science fiction (or any kind) books, consider trying out random books that you find on the shelves. Read the synopsis, some of these will reveal a book that you know you won’t have an interest in. Take a chance and you will be surprised how many great books you can find this way. Of the authors that I follow, about half of them I discovered in this matter.
Great science fiction is only a few fingers away from you! Reach out and find something great to read!
